Description
1448 (4.27 m) HDPE Jon Boat Plans
The 1448 HDPE Jon Boat is a simple, durable, and practical flat-bottom boat designed for fishing, recreation, and general utility use on sheltered waters. With an overall length of 14′ (4.27 m), a 60″ (1.52 m) beam, and a 48″ (1.22 m) bottom width, the hull provides good stability and plenty of usable interior space.
This design is especially well suited as a first HDPE boat project. The entire boat is built from 10 mm HDPE (3/8″), which simplifies material selection and construction. The parts are also easy to prepare using either hand tools or CNC equipment.

Transom and Engine Options
Both transom versions are included with the plans as standard, allowing the builder to select the configuration that best matches the outboard engine.
- 15″ (381 mm) – short shaft (S)
- 20″ (508 mm) – long shaft (L)
- Maximum recommended engine power: 15 HP
Including both transom options makes the design compatible with a wide range of commonly available outboard engines.
HDPE Construction
Imperial Version
- Hull, frames, seats, and structural parts: 3/8″ HDPE
Metric Version
- Hull, frames, seats, and structural parts: 10 mm HDPE
Construction Method
The boat is designed for fully welded HDPE construction. Its straightforward Jon Boat geometry keeps the number of complex parts to a minimum, making fitting and assembly easier for home builders.
The use of the same 10 mm material thickness throughout the main structure further simplifies the construction process and reduces the number of different materials that need to be sourced.
Easy Hand-Cut and CNC Build
The 1448 HDPE Jon Boat is designed to be easy to cut both manually and with CNC equipment. The relatively simple panel shapes can be prepared using common woodworking or plastic-cutting tools.
This makes the project suitable both for builders working in a home workshop and for those who prefer to have the parts professionally CNC cut.
Difficulty Level
Difficulty level: Easy.
This design is an excellent choice for a first HDPE boat build. Its simple geometry, uniform material thickness, and straightforward assembly make it particularly suitable for DIY builders.
Previous boat-building experience is not required, although basic cutting, fitting, and HDPE welding skills are recommended.
